Each region differs in topography, quality of soil, types of mineral deposits, ease of transportation, and potential for water power all of which have had an impact on those who live there. Each region has had its say in the sometimes friendly, sometimes adversarial relationship between land and people, between farm and farmer, between resource and resourcefulness.
